There is so many different types of games created over the years, games played as children out in the streets, board games and puzzles around the table and then you have your video games that can be played on electronic devices like a PlayStation or mobile phone...you can simply make up one yourself, all you need is a pen and paper!

After reading an article titled "What is a Game Anyway?" we quickly learn a game is classed as a game when it consists of a set of rules and a goal/objective at the end. You can add your own obstacles or 'set-backs' into the game to make it more interesting.

https://www.cgspectrum.com/blog/what-is-game-design is a brilliant read that shows that all you need to kick start your game design journey is a creative mind. The article tells you about the journey of a game designer and the task and decisions making.

When discussing video games and what goes into creating one from the start, we have to think about the key ingredients which are:
  • Developing the storyline and characters.
  • Developing the game, the rules and the scoring system.
  • Scripting/programming.
  • Digital editing
  • Image rendering.
  • Testing (important step) of course!
Seeking inspiration for making games can be easy when you have your mind set, you can't really force yourself to sit down and think for hours straight to come up with the idea, you may get somewhere but it may turn out terrible... The good ideas come from being inspired by something, it could be reading, listening to music, going on a walk and looking what is around you. "The Organic Nature of Game Ideation" Using your imagination is so important! Let your mind run free. That is when you can start writing and focusing is when you have your idea down you can think logically.

Coming up with your idea for a game their is many steps involved. https://www.pluralsight.com/blog/film-games/creating-game-concept-first-step-getting-game-ground talks about the realistic approach. You have to think of the genre and what is already out there? is that type of genre flooded with games currently? how would yours differ etc.

Four Basic Methods for Generating  Ideas was definitely the most intriguing read for myself. It shows how much the atmosphere around us can affect how we work. Sitting in the same office day in, day out will not give you a creative flow of new ideas. A new scene, almost has the affect of a new set of eyes and gets the juices flowing.
