Game Testing

Image
Game Testing playtesting, ( source ) The first piece I read was 7 Different Types of Game Testing Techniques by Niranjan Limbachiya. The gaming industry is growing constantly, and game developers often feel like they need to get their games out faster than other to achieve a better response. But this is not really the smartest move as the consumer has the final decision whether the game was rushed or it wasn't simply ready to come out yet. This can of course lead to major dips in sales for that particular game. So this is why game testing is a vital step in the process as it can catch errors or bugs from a whole new pair of eyes! There are major risks when it comes to game testing, this can be a nervous time for the game developer as it could be simply that their game isn't entertaining enough or unique enough...or it could be down to that their game has poor visuals/audio etc. They need to ensure all these factors are covered before they pass it on for game testing. Here ar

Beta

Beta So we are nearly at the end and I am so happy already seeing my game come together. This week was the week I needed to add the little details to add to the experience of the game, this included: Adding a Main Menu to my game. I added a button on the players screen so they can pause, or restart the game etc. I then enlarged the button icons after building and running my game as they were smaller then I imagined.  I tested out different textures on my ball and finally decided on the chosen skin. I added a few more gems to the game. I made sure you could trace your steps back easily incase you missed a gem and you don't want to restart all over again. screenshot from my game screenshot of chosen texture screenshot of skin I didn't like in the end. Am I finding anything difficult before I am fully completed the game? No! ahahahahah weird hearing that now... This journey was actually fairly smooth sailing for me. Of course some weeks were harder than others but I have not fac

Unity Tutorials 10

Unity Tutorials For this weeks tutorials I wanted to find a good tutorial on how to add a pause button onto the players screen. I found a brilliant one on YouTube. It on the Channel KeySmash Studios Tutorial link:  How to add a pause button screenshot of zoomed in Pause button. This was a very quick tutorial that only needed about 6 lines of code and then a few tweaks within your game and boom! We have a pause button on our game :)))) The next tutorial I looked at was I was finally found a quick and easy menu display tutorial from the same YouTube Channel. I am super happy with how easy it was. The tutorial was meant for games that had more than one level but I think adding a screen before playing my game can add a bit more of an effect to it overall. Game Stories

Game Stories Gta gameplay (Source) The first article I read for this week was " What Every Game Developer Needs to Know About Story ". by John Sutherland . He speaks on the misconceptions on how people view the story element when it comes to games. John Sutherland showed that a lot of people think that "Story is just dialog" and how stories aren't important. When I read this I laughed a bit... Without noticing many people don't realise you have a story for your game before you put the pen to paper.  When it comes to story in movies, they are primarily visual. Plays on the other hand are primarily auditory. Now where could we throw games into? Games are the tricky one. No player wants to sit there and listen to a lot of audio and little visuals as they will surely become bored. Stories in games would be closer to movies rather than plays. As the majority of the game is all about the visuals. But of course, they are not exactly the same. A really good unders

Twitter Task 10

Creating Lists Screenshot of Twitter List For this task I had to make a list that contained items of interest. It was pretty straight forward. I never personally have used this on Twitter but I haven't used Twitter in years... It is a very nice feature as it can organise your interests into different Twitter feeds essentially. I will make a few more lists no doubt as time goes on as they can be very beneficial for day to day life if you want to find a bit of inspiration or a nice article to read! Unity Tutorial 09

Image
Unity Tutorial 09 For this week tutorial part of my project, I wanted to start adding the last bits of obstacles but this time I want to add shapes that had functions. So for that, I needed scripts as well as the actual obstacle itself. I found a simple Unity Asset pack that had all the things I needed. It is by AisuKaze Studio . He also has a YouTube video attached that shows you what the finished results should look like. Screenshot of tutorial: Unity I found this very very helpful as my main obstacles are all different types of balancing beams that I made myself, but adding in extra moving ones adds to my game! The next thing I looked at was on how to change my skybox for my game. The default one I thought was too plain and I wanted to change it to add more character into my game. I found a really good video explaining how to do it on Key Mouse's page on Unity. It was really cool how one small detail can change the entire look of your game. Some colours for the sky really mad
